Syllabus Week is Over and Football Season Has Arrived
The first week of school is chaotic. Everyone needs to figure out their schedules, find their classrooms, and buy their books in order to be officially settled for the semester. Some people think that the first week of classes is a breeze because it is when teachers go over their syllabi. It is referred to as “syllabus week”. Although this may be true for some, I beg to differ. My “syllabus week” consisted of several readings, as well as a few writing assignments. I think that the first week is meant for you to get in the routine of going to class and begin preparing for upcoming homework and exam dates. A lot of people blow it off and party every day of the first week and then have a lot of catching up to do the following week.
The first weekend after school starts is a huge deal because it is the start of football season. People mainly get excited because it is also tailgating season. Tailgating is a popular event at Iowa. People get together all over Iowa City, but mainly near Kinnick Stadium, to eat, drink, socialize, and show their Hawkeye pride. It is an anticipated statewide event.
Overall, the start of the fall semester is an exciting time full of school, tailgate, readings, and football games.
