Beforehand, when you live in your parent’s home, all those small items are conveniently in the home, whether it be garage gadgets to weird things under your sink.

Moving into a place, a lot of us don’t normally think about the small things first. We normally think about the big, bulky necessary items, like a couch, a bed, a washing machine/dryer, etc. Though those items are certainly important and a necessity, little items that can make your day to day life convenient definitely come in handy and shouldn’t be looked over!

Items underneath your kitchen sink may not be the first thing you think of when buying furniture or necessities for your home, but there are plenty of things you need to have in order to have a perfectly functional and relatively stress-free home. You might be lost as to what item to have under your sink because while you want to have what is important, you also don’t want to go overboard and add unnecessary clutter.

1. Extra Sponges: Unless you exclusively use paper or styrofoam plates, sponges are a necessity to have under your sink. Sponges obviously help to clean your dishes and glasses, but sponges are also great to clean your countertops or tough to remove grime on your stovetop. If you wash dishes frequently, sponges can get nasty pretty quickly, so stocking up on extras is a smart move!

2. A Multipurpose Cleaner: Let’s face it, kitchens just by their nature get dirty. You’re cooking food, preparing meals, assembling lunches, etc., which can sometimes end in a total mess. After the day is over, you don’t want to be left with a kitchen riddled with crumbs, dirt, and leftover food. A multipurpose cleaner is perfect to disinfect and wipe away all of the mess of the day.

3. Essential Oils: Essential oils aren’t just good for putting in a diffuser, they’re also great for a number of other purposes, such as getting rid of annoying bugs that may be invading your home. John Mease, a home inspector in Atlanta noted in an article by Lambeth Hochwald, “If mice and bugs are a constant bother, try placing essential oils (such as lavender and cedar) or bug-repelling plants (such as strong mint) around the house to discourage these annoying pests from entering your space. Sure, vinegar helps, too, but it doesn’t smell nearly as good.”

4. A Magic Eraser: There is a reason why the name of these lifesavers is “magic erasers.” I don’t know what exactly is in these special white sponges, but they are seriously nothing short of magic. Magic erasers are known to get even the most stubborn or difficult of stains off with little to no effort. When accidents happen, a magic eraser is always there to clean it up!

5. Drain-O: Our sinks can run perfectly forever, every once in a while we’ll run into a problem with our sink draining properly. When the food gets clogged up in the drain and the water doesn’t go down, Drain-O is your friend. Something great to have under your sink!

6. Garbage Bags: Sometimes there are those weird items that you don’t have a space for. Garbage bags are definitely those items. You might have a garbage can under your sink, or you might have one elsewhere in your kitchen, regardless, your garbage bags can be out of the way under your sink and available when you need to use them.

7. Mini Tool Kit: Whenever a problem arises, the greatest frustration most of the time is not fixing it, but finding where your tools are. A mini tool kit has all of the tools you need to solve those simple, everyday problems like a screwdriver, scissors, pliers, a wrench, a hammer, etc., which can make tackling that problem much less stressful.

8. Cleaning Gloves: Getting down and dirty with your hands doesn’t feel the greatest, which is why cleaning gloves are your friend. They keep your hands protected from icky and gross grime and are easily replaceable once they’ve reached their end. One of those little, but useful, under-the-sink items!

9. Plastic Bucket/Container: A plastic bucket is a great multi-use item that can function as a storage container as well as something to catch a leak under your sink.

10. Dish Soap: An obvious, but important item to have under your sink, dish soap is useful for cleaning your dishes and pans, but also cleaning surfaces when your spray cleaner can’t do the trick. Melissa Maker of Clean My Space writes, “Any time ‘warm, soapy water’ is called for, this is what you want to use. A small squirt goes a long way. Not only does it cut grease, it removes surface dirt and won’t harm or stain delicate surfaces.”

Sometimes a lot of our problems can be solved by only the simplest of solutions. When moving into your new space, you are bound to forget some of the important essentials, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never get them! Similarly, as you get comfortable, you may find that your coffee table is too short or your loveseat isn’t big enough, that’s where CORT Furniture Rental comes in and helps with all your furnishing needs! Just like CORT, things under your kitchen sink can swoop in and save you during those stressful situations. As always, good luck!
