What Type of Backpack Fits Your Lifestyle?

By Danielle Wirsansky on July 31, 2017

Backpacks are an incredibly important part of a college student’s everyday life. Every day, they are filled with books, lunches, notebooks, laptops, and more and hauled across campuses. It does not matter if the sun is shining or the rain is pouring, you have got to go to class, which means your backpack does too.

Without a proper backpack, it would be extremely difficult to get to class on time and with all of your class materials. With that being said, it is incredibly important, for all of the previously stated reasons, that you find the right backpack that will work for you.

Read on to learn about the different kinds of backpacks and see which kind of backpack might work best for you!

Waterproof backpacks

There is almost nothing worse than being caught in the rain when you are not prepared for it. You are wet and damp and your shoes might even be ruined or your makeup running down your face.

Now imagine being caught in a rain shower on campus and during the school day. You have no towel, no way to dry off, no change of clothes or a different pair of shoes. You have to sit through class all day, clammy, cold, and moist, your shoes squelching with each step, and perhaps even your mascara smudged around your eyes.

Add on top of that the fact that you had your backpack on and now not only are you soaked but your belongings, your textbooks, and your notebooks are soaked too. Your books are destroyed and your notes ruined. Your laptop was in your backpack too and now it has water damage that you are not prepared to pay to repair. On top of this, you now have nothing to carry your belongings in except your own hands, unless you want to put everything back into your wet backpack where they were destroyed in the first place.

Now, if you had had a waterproof backpack, the day might have been saved. You might still be cold and wet but the irreplaceable things like your school textbooks, your notes, and your laptop might have been saved.

For some students, the rain is not so much of a threat because their campuses are mostly located indoors or they do not live in an area with much rain. But for those that have to trek through the great outdoors to get to class or live in a rainy region, a waterproof backpack might save you.

Laptop backpacks

Say rain is not such a big issue for you in your everyday life as a college student. But your computer is. Most college students today use a laptop or portable computer device. It is almost impossible to get college coursework done nowadays without having a computer or working online.

Your laptop is a special and expensive commodity, necessary to your education. Most college students cannot really afford to have their laptops broken and out of commission, whether it be the cost of repairs or the cost of going so long without their computer and being unable to get work done. A great way to protect your laptop as you carry it around with you all day around campus is to get a special laptop backpack.

A laptop backpack has a special sleeve or giant pocket in it that is just for your laptop. Whether you keep your laptop in a case or not, you can slide it into the sleeve and it will be protected. This is protection from small issues like getting the shell of the laptop scuffed from the other stuff inside your bag or big stuff like dropping your backpack onto the ground. It can also help to protect your laptop from the rain in case a freak rain shower happens to catch you too.

Rolling backpacks

Another issue to contemplate when shopping for a backpack is how much stuff you have to carry. Some students carry very little with them on a day to day basis. Others have to carry a lot of stuff with them everywhere they go. College is not like high school and there are no lockers to keep your stuff in all day. You generally have to carry everything you need for the whole day with you at once and all of that stuff can certainly add up.

Having to trek across campus with a huge and heavy backpack is not good for you. If you carry a lot of stuff, it might be time to consider buying a rolling backpack. These might not seem like the coolest backpacks around, but your back will certainly thank you! Keeping yourself in good health is incredibly important so you can get your schoolwork done and stay on track. What is more important, being in good health or being cool?
