The Final Month of College As Told By Memes

By Kelsey Lange on May 18, 2017

I would like to believe that the majority of graduating seniors are on the same page. A very emotional page. This is because of the pure fact that graduation is one month away. And that means a lot of things.

It means that there are going to be a lot of “lasts,” a lot of work, a lot of deadlines, a lot of pressure, a lot of tears, a lot of everything all at once. And with that, it is important to rely on humor and the ability to relate to those around you. College has the comfort that at any moment in time you are surrounded by those that are on the same path as you. And with that, though graduation can be an emotional and maybe even scary time, seniors can rely on the comfort of not being alone in this.

Memes have a special place in this generation’s hearts. It goes along with the concept of being able to relate to others. Though they are silly and meaningless, it helps us relate to each other.

Without further ado, here is the last month of college as told by memes.

When you realize these are your last assignments to ever be graded.

Though we are transitioning into the work world, there is something very satisfying about not having to be graded ever again. I mean, unless you’re going to grad school. That’s a different story then. But for a lot of us, school is out forever. And that is a great feeling.

What is especially satisfying about graduating is never having to take a class again that is not beneficial for your career. For example, I took an entire course about dinosaurs my junior year, where I learned information I will never use for the rest of my life.

When you hear freshmen, sophomores, or juniors complaining about how fast the semester went.

Sensitivity is at its highest for graduating seniors, and hearing other students talk about how fast their college career is going might be a trigger. How have four years gone so fast? I would give anything to go back and relive the past four years knowing what I know now. If I could have held onto time a little more maybe I wouldn’t be staring at my graduation gown hanging from my closet door every night.

Try not to take it personally if you get a few eye rolls from those older than you if you choose to complain about the quick pace of college. Yes, it went fast. It’s all we can think about.

When someone tries to talk to you about your post-graduation plans at the bar.

Personally, the bar is the last place that I want to be thinking about interviews, jobs, work, or school. But somehow the majority of those topics seem to come up during small talk. Nothing good can come out of a conversation like this unless you’re going to offer me a job or get me an interview when we’re sober.

I don’t want to have the same conversation I’ve been having with every adult in my life for the past three months, especially with alcohol in my hand.

When you want to nap, but all of your responsibilities don’t agree.

Napping is an essential to keeping college students alive, especially college seniors. But as the semester goes on, napping becomes less and less enjoyable. When the room is quiet and your eyes are shut, suddenly all of your responsibilities have the time to speak up.

When you realize you have to be a real person in one month

I know that a lot of us have been pretty good at ignoring the fact that we are not going to be in college forever. It becomes easy to feel like a kid still because that is exactly how we feel on the inside. College has definitely molded me into a more confident, educated, smarter, well-rounded person.

But that doesn’t take away from the fact that I feel like I am still a child. Having a due date to accept an extreme amount of responsibilities can be shocking, especially if you are like me and try to take one day at a time. “Shook” is the term that comes to mind.

When you made it

It is easy to become overwhelmed with work and responsibilities. But it is important to remember how far you have come in the past four years. We did it. Graduating college is a huge accomplishment and we have all had our struggles. Pride is one of the emotions you should allow yourself to feel during this time. And it should be embraced.

Let the last month of your college career be a great one because you deserve it. Congrats!
