Follow these seven tips to help you get through finals week and before you know it you will be done.

1. Study somewhere quiet

  • Location is key. Make sure to go somewhere where you will have no distractions. Studying in a place with less noise and distractions will result in more effective studying and help improve your memory by retaining more.
  • Great Locations to Study: Library, book store, your bedroom (if you don’t live with someone who is loud), a park (if weather is nice), a quiet coffee shop.

2. Take your Time

  • It is important to not rush yourself when it comes to studying. Finals take a few hours to accomplish so there will be a lot of studying involved for them. Take breaks in between studying so you don’t overwhelm yourself.
  • If you are studying for an hour, take a 10 to 15 minute break in between. Get up and stretch. Get a drink or snack.

3. Get Plenty of Sleep

  • Getting plenty of rest is key to help you study better and test well. You will do much better if you are well rested.
  • Aim to get at least six to eight hours of sleep. This will help relieve stress and improve focus.

4. Have a Snack

  • Make sure to bring a snack and a drink to help get you through studying.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Coffee is okay too :] This will help you stay awake as well!
  • Choose a snack that is healthy. Examples of Healthy Snacks: Almonds, Yogurt, Fruits

5. Form a Study Group

  • Study groups can be great for helping you study. A good study group can accomplish covering a lot of material, focusing in on what’s important and get a lot done with more people.
  • You and your study group can help with difficult concepts and problems if one person knows and the other doesn’t.
  • Less procrastination as well if involved in a study group.

6. Be Organized

  • Make sure you have all your notes organized and ready to go.
  • Organize a Calendar. You should add when your exams are and when you want to schedule in time for studying for each one.

7. Test Yourself

  • Take a practice quiz to see how well you know the material. This will help you relearn information you might have forgotten or just help improve your memory of what you already have learned.
  • Don’t use your notes. Use your brain to see if you can remember without looking at notes.
