He teaches at a slow pace that is understandable but there are so many different problems and different situations. You feel like you got it down and then look at the next problem and it will be impossible. Tests are really hard and really tricky at times. You should expect to put aside at least 10-15 hours of studying if your expecting an A.
His notes are extremely confusing. During the lectures, he explains the material really easily and for the tests, he brings out his weird questions that knock you off balance... Extremely hard tests, even though you prepare for them, you must think the questions through within the constrained timeframe and try to answer them right...
Pros: He is very enthusiastic about the topic.
Cons: He moves through material WAY TO FAST.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING CLASSES WITH THIS GUY
Pros: He seems like a really nice guy, but...
Cons: He's not a true educator. While there's no denying his intellect, he really is a poor teacher when it comes to subject matter. Topics a quickly glossed over and he assumes you've absorbed everything he touched on.
Also, on insisting on using Minitab (a statistical software) rather than Excel is ridiculous, as every person taking that class will go on to work with Excel in some magnitude. I get it that Minitab is more powerful, but who cares if I never use it again.
Pros: Seemed to be pretty cheerful.
Cons: I felt he was condescending to the class at times, treated us like we were in 6th grade.
Cons: Homework takes a long time to do...
Only used textbook for homework.
Pros: Professor Whitten makes Stats worth going to. His enthusiasm and knowledge for the subject is infectious. He is always willing and happy to help a student in need and remembers your face and name after just a few meetings.
Cons: Some people claim this class is hard, but if you make sure to do the homework thoroughly without just copying down answers, you will do just fine on the tests.
Pros: he has a workbook pre-made so you don't take too many strenuous notes
Cons: He goes over material so quickly it's really hard to understand
Pros: He is very interested in teaching the subject.
Cons: Tests are very hard along with the weekly quizes.
Pros: Very enthusiastic about statistics, very organized
Cons: Moves quickly, difficult if you miss 1 class
Pros: I hate to admit it, but he is actually a decent teacher. You get to use a note sheet for the exams.
Cons: As a person, I really don't like Whitten! He is condescending and a jerk. There are a lot of quizzes! If you are looking for an easy A don't take this class!
Good class notes but tough subject to understand with bad teaching skills... really tough quizzes and exams.
