President Obama's Address to the Nation
President Obama addressed the nation on Tuesday during prime time television, interrupting popular shows across channels. Did this bother avid So You Think You Can Dance viewers or the audience watching America’s Got Talent? I really, really hope not. Tuesday night was important, it was historical (being the ninth time the President has addressed the nation since coming into office), and it offered an explanation of the recent events in Syria.
Those 15 minutes on air were engaging, informative, and emotional, but the idea of this article isn’t to repeat everything that was addressed on Tuesday. My idea is to pose an argument to you, the college student, and decide if enough of us were excited about the interruption in our nightly shows. Did everyone know what time he was walking up to the podium? Did your classmates know what he was going to address? Did your friends care?
I’m curious to hear your answers because I know mine and they’re not good. I’m disappointed in my people and their lack of drive to be curious about the world. Sure there’s homework and parties, clubs and boys, but there’s also Twitter and newspapers, Facebook and engaging conversations.
