How to Change the Mood of Your Apartment

Your apartment should be a place of inner peace, solidarity, and overall expression. From time to time, it is definitely necessary to shake things up a bit and update your apartment.
In the beginning of the semester, you probably had everything more feng shui than all things feng shui. Your bed was made every morning. Your desk was free from clutter and destruction. Your floor was not littered with those Oreo cookie crumbs that accumulated during midterms week.
By the end of the first half of the semester, all of these things went to shambles, and that is totally okay! The next step in your plan should be a way to reclaim your room and change the overall vibes, and we are here to help. Read on to learn how to change the mood and/or atmosphere of your apartment into something you will absolutely love.
The first step to creating a new space that you will love is clearing up clutter. Consider your room a representation of your mind. If your room is flooded with mess and disorganization, your thoughts will also be flooded with mess and disorganization. This will also add to your levels of stress (who wants to come home to a messy house every day?).
The solution is to simply get organized. You may not have the time to do it all at once, but you can certainly make tiny steps and efforts. Rather than tossing your graded papers under your bed, try gathering them together and placing them in a folder. Rather than allowing your laundry to sit in your basket for goodness knows how long, take the time to fold it and put it where it needs to be.
Before you know it, you will be looking at a fresher, cleaner environment.
Without the right amount of life, any apartment or dorm will begin to resemble the walls of a prison. Since we definitely do not want that, the best way to spruce up your living space is to add some life. This can come in the form of some small plants (fake or real — it’s up to you!), or perhaps a pet fish!
Personally, I try to keep my room looking lively with a bamboo plant. Bamboo plants are simple to take care of and they add a ton of personality to your room since they come in many different shapes, styles, and designs.
As far as small pets go, you will need to learn about the policies of your apartment complex or residence halls. Most places allow for small pets like fish, but it’s better to do your research and make sure.
Remove the bad vibes
You would be surprised how much bad energy can clog up an otherwise beautiful space. Do you have a t-shirt from your ex that you have been putting off getting rid of? No time like the present. Do you have some old photographs of friends that you no longer have positive relationships with? It is time to say goodbye.
Items with negative energies such as these will suck away from any potential positive energies that your room has. It will leave you feeling stressed and depressed, which is definitely something to be alleviated right away. It can be hard saying goodbye to objects that once held such intimate value, but in the end, you will be glad you made the decision to get rid of them.
Divide spaces and energies
As the old saying goes, there is a time and a place for everything. There is also a time and a space for everything! You might be accustomed to eating and studying in bed, or sleeping and eating in the living room. While this may have worked for you in the past, it might be a good idea to try something different.
Up the feng shui in your room by dividing up your spaces. Use your bedroom exclusively for sleeping, resting, and recuperating. Use your kitchen or dining area for eating. Use an office for studying. If you do not have an office, use your local library or somewhere outside of your home to fulfill your academic needs. Doing so will train your brain to adopt certain energies in certain times and places.
For instance, do you ever wonder why you suddenly become tired and unmotivated the minute you start doing your homework in bed? Your brain is accustomed to associating the textures of your bed with sleep, so it is going to behave accordingly. Dividing these spaces and energies according to the various things you use them for will help you to stay organized psychologically and emotionally.
Research color psychology
Color psychology really is a thing and you should use it to your advantage. Certain colors can evoke certain moods and energies within your apartment. While you might not be able to paint your apartment or dorm, you will certainly be able to decorate it with objects of certain colors. For instance, the color red can incite hunger, so it is a color best placed in your kitchen. Colors like blue, green, and purple are relaxing colors, so they are probably best in your bedroom. Do your homework and figure out how to use color psychology to your advantage when creating a whole new space for yourself.
