Regardless of where you live in the world, when winter is around the corner, you tend to get in the spirit. This does not necessarily mean that you leave cookies for Santa, but maybe you hang up a few stockings and turn up the holiday music. We all know that certain Mariah Carey song so don’t you dare pretend you don’t.

Whether you are stuck shoveling snow or basking in the Florida sunshine, there is a sense of winter and holiday cheer. In order to add warmth to your apartment, you want to make it believable, cozy, and of course relatively cheap.

To discover all of the ways that you can add warmth to your place, continue reading below. You may want to get your wish list out.

1. Decorate like it’s your job.

Warmth can come in various forms. You know, with the obvious heater for those below zero days, which I sincerely apologize for, but especially with the decor. It is all about color schemes and patterns. The darker the better. And in this case, the more the better. Well maybe not too crowded or crazy but you can get close.

Decorating consists of so much that it is almost impossible to go wrong. Okay, well it is possible but I have faith that you will not be making amateur mistakes at this point in your decorating career. You want to use dark colors given it brings out the winter feels, but also highlights the coziness.

You can go crazy here with blankets, paintings, pillows, and you do not want to forget about the coffee mugs. FYI the penguin ones are to die for. And do not dare forget about the actual festive decorations. These include, but are not limited to, lights, inflatable snowman, and of course candy canes everywhere. It is clearly a winter wonderland.

Add incense everywhere.

Now, not everyone is a fragrance person and I totally understand this. But have you ever smelt an amazeballs candle? You know, the ones that stick with you all day and you desperately wish that you could capture it and take it with your wherever? Yeah, you know the ones.

There is something about candles that really make you appreciate the season. This also usually means that you are sipping on a Pumpkin Spiced Latte, but hey, it’s festive, amIright? Candles are a go-to item and literally help calm you down. Well, I claim this but I am sure that there are psychological statistics supporting my claim somewhere.

You do not want to go with the candles that remind you of beach days or linen sheets. At least for me, I prefer to select the candles that smell more like cinnamon and hot cocoa. This way, I feel like I am experiencing winter even if it happens to be 80 degrees outside. Plus, who doesn’t love a little reminder of seasons changing and leaves falling? Exactly.

Focus on the small things.

To make your apartment warm, you want to not just focus on the obvious things, like having your Christmas tree in front of your window or having a red throw on your recliner. But rather, you want to take focus on the small things. This means that you can add a decorative mat on your porch, or hang tinsel on your staircase. Beware, though, this can become very messy in very little time.

The small things also consist of maybe adding a small fireplace with logs. Okay, well maybe that is not necessarily a small thing, but it definitely gets the job done. Plus, you can have s’mores right in the comfort of your own living room. How great, I know.

More small things include snowmen salt and pepper shakers, tiny reefs, and of course some good ole holiday tunes. Baking some cookies also goes a long way, plus makes you happy. Like they say, small things can make a world of difference.

Now that it is winter and we have been awaiting the days for sweater weather and warm cocoa, we can attempt to make our apartment warm. Not just in the sense of literal temperature, but in the feel and vibe of your house.

You should decorate like it is your ultimate goal, add candles throughout each room, and put your focus on the small things. This way, you will definitely be in the winter spirit. Plus, who doesn’t want an excuse to add penguin decor everywhere?
