Coachella 2014 Fashion Essentials

By Michelle Kim on April 4, 2014

A crowd full of hipsters, youth and rebel in the midst of random dust storms — that’s how one of our favorite arts and music festivals, Coachella, sounds to us. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which kicks off on Friday, April 11, is the ultimate place to make good memories. Social media will blow up during the two consecutive weekends of Coachella, and of course, many of us will be glancing at varying styles people bring out during the event.

We have encountered some major do’s and don’ts from previous Coachella festivals and want to make sure we don’t go through the same fashion mistakes. Regarding that, here’s five key fashion items you would be approved of to sport for everyone’s favorite dessert festival.

1. Patched High Waisted Denim Shorts

Bring out the artsy side of you as you wait for the booming festival. High-waisted denim shorts are cool, but bringing your personality and character onto this attire makes the outfit even better.

There’s a lot of pressure living under a college budget and it’s not like thrift clothing are cheap nowadays. In those situations, make your own, exclusive pair of patched denim shorts. Any item, starting from left over fabric, old clothes or jerseys to accessories works when fabricating this vintage set.

2. Floral Attires

Stay groovy with floral pieces — a statement style often seen at Coachella.

This bohemian look is perfect when going for a carefree look, whether it is a floral patterned kimono top, dress or romper, plainly go simple. Spice up your vintage-y look by creating your own flower crown, whether it is made by sunflowers, pink roses or white daisies, keep it basic and chic.

3. Lace and Ruffles

If you got this item packed, you’re theoretically set for Coachella.

Blend dark fashion with the beautiful bohemian fashion — so called the boho-chic look. It’s all about layering your outfit with muted color palettes that are full of ruffles and laces. If you have an ivory colored embroidered lace top, pair it up with bright toned shorts or a ruffled maxi skirt. Even that dusty wind blowing through your outfit would make you look feminine and beautiful.

4. Flare Pants

The 70s flare pants made a huge come back, even as jeans. Not only is it top celebrities’ pick, but it’s also a flexible outfit that works perfectly with every body shape.

Whether it’s tie-dye or boho-patterned flare pants, style it with a crop top of your choice. For those who’ve been working out for the festival and would want to boast their abs, now’s the time to slip on that groovy bell-bottom flare pants.

5. Aztec

The vibes when thinking of mountains, desert, and heat can all be conveyed through Aztec prints.

In my personal opinion, Aztec prints can be a little outdated and mundane when it is worn in regular circumstances, but Coachella can become a great excuse to bring those outfits back to life. Pair up your favorite Aztec kimono cardigan with an ivory midi dress or show off the sun kissed legs with Aztec shorts or skirts with a basic crop top.

All the key items we’ve laid out can interrelate and be styled with one another. You’re going to be walking, sweating, dancing the day and night out — you might as well get comfy but maintain that swankiness.
