Eating Your Way To Clear Skin

By Alison Keim on April 5, 2014

Many think once they have entered college that they are finally freed from the unwanted greetings on their face that we call acne, think again. Acne still plays a vital part in the lives of college students. However as we get older, the way we treat and take of our skin differs than it did during the acne prone years in middle and high school. The mass amounts of stress and unhealthy diet that exists in a number of college students can really leave a toll to the skin.

Eating high processed foods that are loaded with sugar will lead to a rapid increase in blood sugar. Combine that with high stress levels and that equals zits on your face. Take a look at these foods that help the fight to clear your skin.

Berries

Berries are a great substitute to replace the sugary cereal bar you eat in the morning on your way to class.
They are easily accessible, delicious, and best of all they are filled with skin clearing antioxidants. Berries also include a great amount of fiber. Berries will help keep your hunger and zits away longer.

Nuts

Replacing your bag of potato chips with a bag of nuts is a great habit to get hooked on. A small handful of nuts can fill your body with fiber, protein, unsaturated fats, vitamins, and minerals. Nuts also protect against disease, they boost brainpower, and of course, clear your skin. There is really no reason why you shouldn’t be completely nuts for nuts with all of the benefits a simple handful a day can bring you.

Getting hooked on green tea can only benefit you. Green tea has numerous health benefits. It will increase your metabolism, high in antioxidants and vitamins, and help your skin look as beautiful as your body will feel. Whole-Grain

The simple switch between white and whole-grain can really make a difference. Instead of reaching for white carbohydrates, try whole-grain. But, remember to still do this in moderate amounts. Whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, and whole-grain bread is digested more slowly and don’t lead to an insult spike, which will keep your acne safe and gone.

Water

Water should always be your best friend. It clears your skin, keeps you focused, flushes out your toxins, replenishes water in the cells, helps your brain stay fully functional, and.so.much.more. Not to mention, it’s free! Fill that water bottle up constantly between classes, and make sure you drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day to receive all of the benefits.
