YouTube's Grace Helbig starting over: where I stand
As one of my personal favorite stars on YouTube, Grace Helbig, is finishing out her contract with My Damn Channel, the uproar of YouTubers and viewers alike has been felt across all branches of social media. While in Grace’s original contract with My Damn Channel it stated that “DailyGrace” and all of its content would be owned by the company My Damn Channel; however, we never expected that they would milk her success by reairing “Classic Grace” videos to keep making money without her.
Yes, a part of me understands why My Damn Channel needs to keep the “DailyGrace” channel as their own—they helped to format the show and ultimately get her more recognized as a YouTube persona. But reairing her videos without any profit for her? A little sneaky and definitely bad form. See their post about it here.
YouTubers have been promoting Grace’s new channel, youtube.com/itsgrace for the past week urging viewers to help Grace get her subscriptions back up (which were over 2 million on the DailyGrace channel). So far she’s reached over 300 thousand in the past five days just from an outpour of support from the Internet, including a lovely post by Hank Green of VlogBrothers entitled Daily Grace is Dead- Long Live Grace.

I’ve followed Grace for years now and have come to love and appreciate all of her content and the joy that her channel has given me. I will be following her over and refuse to watch any of the “Classic Grace” videos on her old channel. While DailyGrace and its format may be dead, Grace Helbig will continue to grow and bring more side-splitting laughs to fans for years to come. And let’s not forget about her movie coming out this year! Long live Grace!
